The only son of our Founder, William J. Conner, III was born in the District of Columbia, grew up there, in Oklahoma, and in New York before matriculating at Dartmouth College – during time off from which he attended the University of Chicago studying, inter alia, graduate-level economics – from which he received undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics and business administration, the latter from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration.


While an undergraduate, he undertook a Rockefeller Foundation-sponsored internship at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (District of Columbia) after which he joined the inventors of BASIC to develop and market a state-of-the
-art programming environment for personal computers. Following graduate school, he spent 13 years at The Progressive Corporation  (Tampa, FL, Mayfield Heights, OH, and Toronto, ON) serving in marketing, research & development, and executive management culminating as President and Chairman of the company’s Canadian business. Subsequently he held senior executive positions with Associates First Capital Corp. (Irving, TX), and Citigroup, Inc. (New York, NY) after the former merged into the latter, Trilogy, Inc. (Austin, TX), Mt. Washington Assurance Corp. (Concord, NH), and Plymouth Rock Assurance Corp. (Boston, MA). He has served on numerous Boards of Directors for domestic and international businesses, public and private, as well as non-profits and advisory boards.


Among his accomplishments he has: managed successful multi-billion dollar businesses and large multi-national teams; re-structured ailing businesses and driven process improvements to yield success; conceived and introduced novel and strategic technologies; developed and implemented complex public/private sector policy solutions; managed mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and venture investments; and introduced and grown intelle
ctual capital and human development processes for numerous organizations. In addition to his client and practice responsibilities, he also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the 7600-member Dartmouth Alumni Association of Eastern Massachusetts, Inc.  He is a member of the American Economic Association, the Canadian Economics Association, the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the IEEE Computer Society, the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the U.S. Navy Beach Jumpers Association, and a life member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association. He is a certificated airman in both Canada and the United States, a rated open water SCUBA diver, and he holds a U.S. patent.


With his father’s health in decline, he joined the practice in early 2006 to provide strategic direction and to assist with major engagements; he joined the firm full-time and assumed its leadership following his father’s death in late 2006. He has since focused the practice on ensuring engagement success and expanding the breadth of the firm’s competencies.
